Chances are, that if you are into fine Chinese Tea, you have heard about Chen Yuan Hao, or CYH, as the connoisseurs abbreviate it. They are among the pioneers of the so called “Boutique Puerh” who in the 1990’s ventured out into the remote mountain regions of Yunnan to source this special kind of tea, which was until then mostly drunk as a cheap and often low quality tea to accompany food in the tea houses of Hongkong and South East Asia. Puerh is a tea that has, similar to wine, a great aging potential, developing different taste profiles over time – and also increasing in value with it. They established a new kind of this tea, which has now become a luxury product of sorts, equal to other great varieties of Chinese tea, commanding high prices and status symbols.

Decades in the business, CYH was in need of an update to their brand alongside an extensive design system for the packagings of their products. Until then, the collection had grown organically, in an inconsistent way, lacking a distinctive style to set it apart from their competitors. The quality of their tea should already be discernible before even tasting it, expressed in visual and tactile sensations when handling the boxes, sachets and other items. Custom-created Illustrations, based on historical examples, combined with fine papers and production finishings all come together to affirm the standing that CYH already enjoys in the the Puerh tea industry. The tea boxes becoming just like a collection of beautiful books, adorning the customers tea space.
